Hotel prices in Ecuador
Good to know: in Ecuador there are two kinds of
compulsory taxes.
On the one hand, all bars, hotels and restaurants have to charge 12% VAT and
on the other hand, 10% service tax applies to certain categories of bars,
hotels and restaurants. This applies to most of the best hotels and
restaurants. The prices on the menus are mostly without taxes.
In certain regions (Otavalo, Baños, Cuenca,
Quito-Mariscal area, Tena, the Coast), you may often find hotels and
restaurants that apply inexplicably low prices. These hotels often violate
employees rights (salaries, respect, social security, contracts) and there is
practically no hygiene nor safety. Exploitation of employees often forces
them to guarantee their income through other businesses… You will
rarely receive official invoices in these places.
Payments in Ecuador
Changing Traveler's checks is often difficult,
expensive and time-consuming. In most big cities, it is now possible to
withdraw cash from an ATM. Payment with credit cards is possible at many
places, but often implies costs (5 to 10 percent).
Cash payment is highly recommended. No 100 USD bills though.

All rooms have a terrace (except Amsterdam) and a
private toilet with a hot shower.
Cabañas Hakuna Matata:
14 people in 6 cabañas:
1double (one double bed), 4 doubles (two single beds),
1 quadruple (four single beds).
Hakuna Lodge (more spacious):
8 people in 3 rooms: 1 double (one double bed), 1 double (two single beds)
and one quadruple (four single beds).
Hakuna Supreme (even more spacious and more luxurious):
10 people in 5 rooms: 1 double with two single beds, and 4
double with one double bed.

Single rooms
The prices are based on 2 people per room. Depending on the occupancy, for
single rooms, a 20 USD additional fare in the Cabañas, a 24 USD additional
fare in the Lodge or a 26 USD additional fare in Supreme may be
charged.
Prices for children
Until 4 years old: free.
Between 4 and 8 years old: 50% of the adult price.
8 years and up: adult price
Meals
All ingredients are impeccable and top-quality.
Side-dishes are not charged in most cases.
Breakfast is composed of home-made whole-wheat bread
or rolls, juice, coffee/ tea/chocolate milk, eggs, cheese, home-made jam,
butter.
The lunch in Pangaea Restaurant is usually composed of fresh soup and varied
salad specialties with home-made whole-wheat bread, pasta or tortillas.
Dinner in Pangaea Restaurant is composed of a three course menu.
A cold or hot first course, a main dish and a dessert.
Important
- Please let us know if you are vegetarian and whether or not you
eat chicken, eggs or fish.
- It is not allowed to consume food or beverages in the cabañas or
the restaurant (except for baby food, diabetic food, etc.).
- Book your reservation at least 1 day in advance by e-mail or by
phone.
- Payment must be done cash on site. We may sometimes ask an for
advance, which has to be paid as agreed upon (bank transfer).
